ASEAN Youth Peacebuilders Program
From January 17 to 29, 2026, the inaugural ASEAN Youth Peacebuilders Programme brought together 43 inspiring young leaders from across ASEAN for a transformative residential experience at Sunway University in Malaysia. Supported by The Rotary Foundation and led by the Rotary Club of Ipoh Central alongside international and partner clubs, the initiative was delivered in collaboration with UNFPA, Mediators Beyond Borders International (MBBI), and the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP). What began as a gathering of strangers quickly evolved into a vibrant movement of hope and a dedicated community of changemakers.
17-29th January 2026, Sunway University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Over the course of the program, participants engaged in immersive learning, honing essential skills in conflict literacy, emotional awareness, dialogue facilitation, and systematic conflict mapping. The curriculum went beyond traditional classrooms through dynamic activities, including an experiential LEGO-based peacebuilding workshop and the practical application of the Positive Peace Framework. Participants also connected with real-world initiatives during field visits to the Desa Mentari community and the innovative 42 Kuala Lumpur institution, learning firsthand how grassroots engagement and future-ready education drive meaningful social transformation. A defining moment of their shared journey was the unveiling of the Peace Pole at Sunway University, where the cohort gathered to pledge their commitment to the universal message, "May Peace Prevail on Earth".
By the end of the journey, these young leaders stepped forward as official ASEAN Youth Peacebuilders and Peace Ambassadors. Working in cross-border teams, they transformed their ideas into actionable community projects designed to tackle diverse regional challenges, from mental health awareness and environmental sustainability to youth leadership and gender equality. The deep bonds formed were highlighted during their graduation, where peers honored one another with special recognitions like the "People's Choice Peacebuilder" and "Most Inspiring Storyteller" awards.
The success of this inaugural cohort sends a powerful message: the youth of today are not only willing, but deeply committed to building a more peaceful, inclusive, and resilient world. They embody the belief that peace is not a distant ideal, but a tangible reality that can be created through courage, collaboration, and action.
Join the movement. Lead the change. Be the peace.
